About Syncing

Using a unix tool called imapsync you can easilly copy entire folders with mail from one mailbox to another, even when they are running on different servers.
This can be a very handy tool when migrating webdomains between service-providers, a neat way to backup a mailbox and sometimes a quick way to fix/cleanup a mailbox.

Installing imapsync

apt-get install imapsync

Copying a remote mailbox to another mailbox

You can run a test using the dry option

imapsync

Next step could be copying all subscribed folders first:
(Note 1: older versions of imapsync don't always seem to have the –foldersonly option)
(Note 2: check if all relevant folders are subscribed by adding the source imap account to (eg) thunderbird. Add any folders if needed)
